The group therapy “Loss and Grief” is designed for individuals who are experiencing persistent, particularly distressing, or complicated grief reactions following the loss of a loved one. The aim of the therapy is to support participants in processing the loss, managing the emotional distress associated with grief, and gradually regaining quality of life and a sense of stability.
Within the safe environment of the group, participants have the opportunity to share their individual experiences of loss and grief and to receive understanding and support from others who have been affected. The therapy provides knowledge about grief processes and the characteristics of pathological or persistent grief reactions. The impact of grief on thoughts, feelings, behavior, and social relationships is reflected upon.
A key focus is on managing intense emotions such as sadness, longing, guilt, anger, loneliness, or hopelessness. Participants learn to recognize distressing thought patterns and develop helpful coping strategies. At the same time, work is done to integrate the relationship with the deceased person in a way that allows for memories without permanently impairing one’s own life.
Furthermore, personal resources are strengthened, social support is promoted, and new perspectives for the future are developed. Through therapeutic conversations, reflection exercises, and mindfulness- and emotion-oriented methods, participants are supported in actively shaping the grief process and regaining access to their own needs, goals, and areas of life.
