Mental illness affects not only the person who is ill, but also their family and social environment. Family members often face major emotional, organisational and interpersonal challenges. This course is aimed at partners, parents, children, siblings and other close persons of people with mental illness.
In the course, participants receive basic information about common mental illnesses, their impact on everyday life, and treatment and support options. In addition, strategies are taught to cope better with stressful situations, improve communication with those affected, and protect one’s own mental health.
Another focus is on sharing experiences with other family members. In a protected setting, questions can be asked, challenges discussed and mutual support experienced. The aim of the course is to promote knowledge, confidence in how to act and self-care, and to reduce the burdens of everyday life as a family member.
